PRESCHOOL AND TRANSITIONAL-KINDERGARTEN
Frequently Asked Questions FEDERAL TAX ID NUMBER: 262-373434
How do I register?
We use Ultracamp online registration. Click here. Have a question? Feel free to email Heidi at email@example.com.
What will my child learn and do?
We believe that play is the “work” of childhood and as such, we strive to introduce learning in an imaginative and explorative way. Children will interact with our animals each day and the focus will be on communicating with and respecting the animals. We have a gorgeous, enchanted, forest with a beautiful creek for exploring. There are picnic tables and a large play structure in this lovely shaded area. There are so many activities to choose from on a daily basis: arts and crafts, story time, archery, fishing, treasure hunts, baking, fort building - you name it. If your child loves nature and the outdoors, then this camp is for them.
My child is on the cusp of the age group - can they be with their sibling?
We will try to accommodate having siblings be in the same group if that is what they want. We do try to group the children by ages, so that our youngest campers are not overrun by bigger children.
What time can I drop off my child?
Camp hours are 8:30am-3:00pm. Drop off is at 8:30am. Early Drop off starts at 8:00am and is available for $20 for the week.
Pick up is at 3:00pm, yet after care is available until 5:30pm for an additional fee.
What should my child bring?
Please keep in mind that your children will be outdoors for most of the day. Please label everything, otherwise it ends up in the lost and found or may accidentally go home with another camper.
What is your staff ratio?
7:1 camper to counselor ratio or better! 5:1 for Little Farmers Camp.
Who are the counselors?
Our summer camp counselors are energetic, enthusiastic, fun-loving educators and college students who adore children, farm animals and nature. We have returning staff year after year and many of our counselors feel like family. Heidi Watkins, the owner of the farm preschool and camp, is on the farm at all times and has her finger on the pulse of all that goes on at Sun Star Farm.
Can parents participate and see what campers are doing?
Pick up and drop off is at our log cabin, located at the front of the property to facilitate a smooth drop off/pick up for Sun Star Farm Camp, Jordan Lake Boating Camp and Tinkering School NC so we do not have much opportunity on a daily basis for families to join campers on the farm. However, on Fridays we love for Farm Camp families to join their children, earlier than regular pick up, so they can show you their favorite animals and spots and activities.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you decide to cancel prior to April 1st, we will issue a full refund minus an administrative fee of $30 per camp session, per child to cover our costs.
AFTER April 1st, full refunds are issued minus the $30 administrative fee only if we are able to fill your child’s place. The more notice, the more likely it is for us to find a replacement, but no guarantees.
All registrations are non-transferable. Please plan accordingly prior to registering. Thank you.
Are there discounts?
Yes! Multi-week and multi-sibling discounts are automatically applied at the time of check out when you use the Ultracamp registration system.
Is there a payment plan available?
Yes, you can select the payment plan during checkout. A 50% deposit is required to register, then the balance is split into equal monthly payments, with the final payment due 30 days prior to each camp week(s).
What dates am I signed up for again?
Sign in to our registration system to check what dates you are registered for and wait-listed for. You can also search your email for "Sun Star Farm". Still not sure? email firstname.lastname@example.org
A class I want to sign up for is full, what should I do?
If something is full, please join the wait-list if you want to go. You can sign up for more than one week. You will be contacted once a spot opens for you. Please reply within 24 hours.
Do you offer Financial Assistance?
We strive to help families facing difficult situations who would not normally be able to afford our program due to extenuating circumstances. Financial assistance is handled in a case by case basis and may or may not be possible. Please email us to explain your situation plus be prepared to pay an agreed upon amount toward your child's registration.
Can you accommodate children with special needs?
We love to be as accommodating as possible and would love to hear from you about what kind of care your child may need at camp, unfortunately we are not set up to provide one-on-one care for any campers with special needs. However, we have had campers come with aids and that has worked out beautifully. Our counselors are experienced, extremely kind and helpful and will and go out of their way to make sure that each camper has an exceptional experience. We love showing children that all are welcome and loved here at Sun Star Farm. Please feel free to contact us if you'd like more information or have specific questions.
What is your behavior policy?
We strive to provide the highest quality experience for your children and want every camper to feel safe and happy. On the first morning of camp we teach the "golden rule." Any form of bullying, verbal or physically, or inappropriate language or content will not be tolerated. Never hesitate to call if you have a concern. We will always try to address any adverse behavior with kind and clear boundaries first, and if that doesn’t then work a phone call to the parent usually does the trick. However, if a child continues to behave in an inappropriate way we will have to ask that they be removed from camp and they will not be allowed to return that week.
