Smooth river rocks, pebbles, clay and sand of every strata are just waiting in the creek for collection and sorting!  Panning for gold and gemstones is fascinating work and tons of fun.  We learn pioneering skills, make soap, candles, and other hands-on projects. Real Native American arrowheads have even been discovered. Cooking on an open-fire also brings joy and a sense of accomplishment during this action-packed week!

Petunia, Lolly and Pop, our feinting goats, and Meka and Pepper, our Pygmy goats, lead the way this week.  We take them on walks through the forest - just like walking your dog at home although more munching along the way! Cuddles and Patches stand out in our sheep herd.  We learn all about them and what makes them happy.  With sheep's wool and our mini-llamas fiber, we make amazing fiber art projects to take home so your child will remember their favorite member of the herd!

Seedlings need tons of space to run wild as their imaginations soar.  Based by the cozy log cabin, we take care of animals in the shade, get drenched during water play, eagerly dig for treasures and more!

We also go on adventures to the creek and picnic in the shady forest. We follow the weekly themes with age-appropriate learning and crafting with natural materials.

This week is very "egg-citing" with our chickens, ducks and "Tomalina" the turkey!  Our adorable baby spring chicks will be getting bigger everyday this summer.  We learn how to care for our flock, collect and wash eggs and more!  After taking our chickens for a walk, we play age-appropriate games, sing songs, and make crafts - all honoring our feathered friends!

Saplings are the "big kids" and explore the farm with the guidance of their loving counselors.  Based at the main farmyard, we care for and learn about the animals, go creek stomping and fishing in our pond!

We also shoot bows and arrows, cook over campfires, and play fun group games.  We make unusual crafts with natural materials and techniques following the weekly themes.

Summer Camp at Sun Star Farm - 2021

Implementing CDC guidelines and revised programming

Step back in time, slow the pace of our hurried modern lifestyle and allow your children to unplug and unwind.  We believe in nurturing children’s natural curiosity and love for nature.  We heavily focus on play and allow children the space and time to live fully into their play.

All weeks include a ton of one-on-one animal time, gardening, crafting, hiking, creek adventures, songs, games and more!  Our farm camp is split  into three different age groups to allow for age-appropriate activities, stories, creative projects and learning opportunities.  Each group has their own indoor and outdoor space to allow for flexibility and ease of adapting the rhythm of the day to suit the needs of the children.

Camp director, Heidi Watkins, a mother of three and educator, is on the farm at all times and is intimately involved in every aspect of the running of the camp and engaging the children at Sun Star Farm.  Come and see why our camp is loved and attended by families year after year.

SUN STAR FARM CAMP "Saplings"   Ages 8-12

This camp is for the pony lover in your life.  We spend time every morning with our pony experts grooming, caring for and learning about these adorable equines.  We do led pony rides everyday.  We learn about the care of ponies, breeds, brushing, feeding, bathing, tack, and safety.  How to lead, mount, and ride and even ride in a pony cart!  Pony-themed crafts, games, stories, art and more!  Musical saddles or square dancing anyone?  (Exception: Ponies Week is $425)

LITTLE FARMERS CAMP "Sprouts"   Ages 3-4

Little fluffy bunnies - need we say more?  Our domestic lion-head bunnies are adorable and calm so campers can hold, care for, and learn all about them. Guinea pigs are sweet and always grateful for a blade of grass to nibble on (think "eating a spaghetti noodle one bite at a time")  Ginger, the Kune Kune pig, and piglets will be the stars of the show this week - more like a dog than a pig.  A good tummy scratch and she is in heaven.  Crafts, games, and other fun activities will have your little one hoppin' this week!

Did you know that fairies and gnomes live in our enchanted forest? See where and learn their clever ways!  Build teeny tiny houses using natural materials and these magical creatures may come to live at your home too.  Craft a beautiful fairy door to put in your room against a wall to allow fairies to magically enter and play. Paint fairy wands and make fairy or dragon wings to wear. Hear stories of these special little friends. Expect your child's imagination to be awakened!
